OUR STORY

Dr. Mohammed Abu Aish

Founder & Chairman

In the summer of 2010 FC Tigers Vancouver was founded by Dr. Mohammed Abu Aish, a Vancouver pediatrician and emergency room physician. In forming the team Dr. Mohammed’s mission was to provide international students, like he was at one time, an opportunity to enjoy the game and be able to participate in the local soccer scene. Dr. Mohammed’s vision was to create a high level team that could compete against the very best teams in Vancouver. In early days most onlookers were amused by his big ideas as the team was a rag tag group of students who really had no idea that Mohammed was going to take them on an incredible soccer journey.

From day One Dr. Mohammed made a commitment to operate the team under the following principles, quality players and professional level coaching and training.

And so the journey began. The team that was initially named Ajyal Tigers ( Ajyal : aka Generations) moved quickly up the ladder from the third division of Vancouver Metro Soccer League and finally gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2015. This feat was accomplished with the help of many international scholarship students, many at the time from the Middle East, several whom were players in the youth ranks of professional teams before choosing to come to study in Vancouver. The team philosophy was to always consistent with providing the best coaching, recruiting top players and providing a professional environment.

During the spring and summer months FC Tigers are very active and participate in the Pacific Coast Soccer League (PCSL), a summer league formed in 1960 that spans the United States and Canadian Pacific Northwest.

From inception to present day, this team has become a force to be reckoned with in the west coast soccer scene. In addition to their multiple promotions the team won the Multicultural League in 2014, Richmond League and Cup from 2015-2018, Imperial Cup in 2018, Provincial Cup finalists in 2019 and won the PCSL Championship in 2019. As a result of their PCSL win, the team will represent Canada in the John F.Kennedy Cup in the May 2020.

We have been very fortunate to attract the top coaches in Western Canada which has allowed us to maintain an exceptional level of sporting integrity in our football operations. From 2010-2012 and again from 2014-2015 the team was managed by Ahmad Haroon, 2012-2014, Abderrazak Chaali, 2015-2019 Swiss International and World Cup 2010 participant, Blaise Nkufo and in 2019-2020 season the team was coached by Canadian NAtional Team Player and Hall of Famer, Randy Samuel. This level of top quality coaches allows the Tigers to stay consistent with its commitment of ensuring a high level professionalism for the Tigers Program.

Over the years Tigers has evolved into a team that attracts many of the top local players and a never ending list of international players who want to call Vancouver home. The list of international players who have suited up for Tigers includes players from China, Japan, Korea Republic, Germany, United Kingdom, Iran, Venezuela, Spain, Serbia, Ukraine, United States, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Nigeria, and too many more to name. We take pride in being an all inclusive team, a team that players choose when they are looking for next level development opportunities. To date a number of our players have gone on to play professional soccer and others have earned soccer scholarships in Canada and the United States.

Just 10 years ago we were a group of students with a big dream but a decade later, with Dr. Mohammed’s drive, passion and ambition, FC Tigers are arguably the top team in the Greater Vancouver soccer scene. Tigers are living proof that if you dream big enough, anything is possible. We believe the sky is the limit and look forward to another decade of continued success for FC Tigers Vancouver.
